Personal background

John M. Gysen was born on April 4, 1942, in Maastricht, The Netherlands. He served in the Dutch Army from July 1961 to November 1963. After his military service, he pursued a career in the hospitality industry, working across Europe before relocating to the United States. He became a U.S. citizen on April 8, 1970, in London, Kentucky.

Career

Gysen spent more than 40 years in the hospitality business, working in both Europe and the United States. His long career in the industry gave him extensive experience serving communities and working with people from all walks of life.

Masonic career

Gysen became a Master Mason in July 1976 and will receive his 50-year pin in 2026. That same year he joined the Scottish Rite in November 1976 and also became a Shriner. He received the Knight Commander of the Court of Honor (KCCH) in November 2023. He has served as Almoner of the Valley of Ocala since 2024.
